My class of 8th graders thoroughly enjoyed their experiences aboard the Mary Day. The captain and crew were welcoming and engaging and made the students feel at ease. Throughout our time, the crew led groups of students into learning about sailing: from hoisting sails to furling them, coiling lines, making knots, cooking in the galley, taking the helm, navigating and plotting courses, and about being on bow watch.
We all had a wonderful time and a couple of days after returning home, the students wanted to go again. From 8th graders, that says a lot!
For my part as a teacher, communication was excellent, and there was always availability for me to ask questions leading up to our departure. Some complex dietary needs were masterfully handled by the galley cook.
This was my second trip with a class aboard the Mary Day and i look forward to going again.
